This paper examines the ecosystem of free Power BI (.pbix) templates available for download, with a specific focus on GitHub as the primary distribution platform. We analyze what constitutes "high quality" in a PBIX template, evaluate the risks and benefits of using community-sourced files, and provide a methodological framework for selecting, validating, and implementing these templates in professional environments. Our findings indicate that while GitHub offers a rich repository of high-quality, production-ready templates, success depends on rigorous metadata evaluation, data lineage verification, and adherence to Power BI performance standards.
