I have been unsuccessful at getting past sp_OACreate under SqlServer 2012. The same sproc works on a SqlServer 2008 box.
EXEC @hr = sp_OACreate 'Chilkat.Crypt2', @crypt OUT results in -2147221005 for @hr.
Callig get error: EXEC @HR = sp_OAGetErrorInfo @crypt, @Source OUT, @Description OUT;
results in @Description being "Invalid class string".
I have checked the registry, the clsids are there. I even edited permission on crypt2 and crypt2.1 adding full control to everyone. I also verified the DLL's folder has everyone read/exec permissions.
I am at a loss here.
See the online reference documentation for the correct strings to pass to sp_OACreate. See http://www.chilkatsoft.com/refdoc/xChilkatCrypt2Ref.html
Automotive parts professionals, garage owners, and distributors heavily rely on TecDoc for accurate cataloging and parts identification. While the cloud-based web portal and API are the modern standards, specific operational environments require an offline solution. Operating without a continuous internet connection presents unique technical challenges, but it is achievable through specific legacy software editions and custom database integrations. The Reality of Modern TecDoc Offline Availability
At its heart, TecDoc is a cross-brand electronic spare parts catalog that includes data from hundreds of manufacturers around the world. TecDoc's offline capabilities allow you to access this vast database without a continuous internet connection, making it an invaluable tool for workshops and parts distributors operating in areas with poor connectivity or requiring uninterrupted access.
: While scanning usually requires a handshake with the server, some basic catalog structures are stored locally to allow for navigation in "dead zones" like underground garages. Key Challenges of Offline Use Data Decay tecdoc offline work

Data updates must be manually downloaded and installed every quarter. 5. Recommended Use Cases The Reality of Modern TecDoc Offline Availability At
The installation is not a simple “drag and drop” process, but it is methodical and well‑documented:
But what exactly does "offline work" entail? Is it simply a backup mode, or can it be a primary operational strategy? This long-form guide explores the architecture, benefits, setup, and best practices for leveraging the TecDoc offline system to maximize productivity, data security, and diagnostic speed. Key Challenges of Offline Use Data Decay Access
Use Windows Task Scheduler to automatically download and apply updates at 2:00 AM. This ensures that your offline work always starts with the latest data, no manual intervention needed.
Offline functionality requires a of TECDOC (Desktop Client), not just the web portal.
It is so that a future version of the ActiveX can co-exist with older versions. You've heard of DLL hell, right? The current naming of "Chilkat_9_5_0." has not changed for several YEARS. Eventually, Chilkat will do a major update to rid itself of all deprecated methods and make long-needed changes which break backward compatibility. When doing so, the name will change -- this will make it so that new programs can use the new version WITHOUT breaking existing older applications.
What about 9.4.x? Did it use the Chilkat.Crypt2 naming? If so, is there a download for it?
